When Curtis Toneff took over behind the bench on October 8, 2024, the Glacier Kings were sitting at 4‑4‑2‑0 through their first 10 games. It’s important to note that the team Toneff inherited was a vastly different roster than what finished last season and what we see today. He had a lot of work to do to rebuild the roster itself, and by all accounts, he’s done a fantastic job.

Toneff’s first season showed a clear defensive improvement, cutting goals against by 1.23 per game compared to the pre‑hire stretch. Offense dipped slightly, but the team became more competitive overall.

The reason we give Toneff a B- for last season is by the end of the season he had 39 different players on the team at any given time. He drastically improved the teams overall defense, dropping their GA/G from 4.20 down to a reasonable 2.97. While the offense suffered a little bit, it seemed that it was more due to the personnel that the coaching staff had been dealing with.

This season, only 7 players remain on the roster that were on the roster when Toneff took over behind the bench and as GM. He has reworked this roster almost completely. The offense has taken a big step forward this year, averaging over 3 goals per game, while defense has slipped a bit compared to last season. Still, the team is trending upward in points per game.

Curtis Toneff has added seven new players to the teams starting line-up this year and has also dealt with call-ups to the BCHL with Ethan Gobel, Captain Kyle Mayenburg and Goaltender Silas Dromarsky all having brief stints with the Powell River Kings. He has managed to get the Glacier Kings back on track with a winning record, and the team currently sits safely in 3rd place in the North Division.
