Ice Breaker: Anthony Ganoung

Welcome to the first installment of Ice Breaker, a new series where we sit down with Glacier Kings players to get to know the people behind the mask, literally, in this case. First up: goaltender Anthony Ganoung, #30, back in net for his second season with the Kings after a strong 2025-26 campaign that saw him named to the VIJHL’s Top Prospects list. Ganoung, a Battle Ground, Washington native, comes up through the Wenatchee hockey program before landing on the Island.

What got you into hockey?
“I started playing when I was around 7-8. My mom would always watch hockey on TV, and I grew up going to Portland Winterhawks games, so I looked up to and had a lot of interest in those guys.”

What’s one goal you’re chasing this season?
“I’d love for us to compete for and win a championship this year — even with all the ups and downs of last season, we managed to have a good second-half showing. Personally, I’d like to feel confident with the numbers I put up, and most importantly stay healthy, and maybe work my way up to the BCHL at some point.”

What’s been your favorite part about playing in the Comox Valley?
“Comox has a really fun small-town JR team feel, but it’s still a lot bigger than a lot of places out there with teams. The rink has a nice atmosphere, and to me, even though it’s only the VI, everything in Comox feels professional — I love that.”

Any pre-game rituals?
“No particular rituals, other than getting some stretches in at a certain time and being in the tunnel five minutes before ice.”

Favorite NHL player, past or present?
“Pavel Datsyuk.”

Pre-game playlist?
“Mostly rock and metal — definitely blast Van Halen, Tesla, Dokken.”
